Accra, Nov. 13, GNA - Mr Ken Ofori-Atta, the Minister of Finance, has said the various flagship programmes introduced by the government are recording successes across sectors of the economy in providing jobs and economic stability.
Presenting the 2020 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament, the Minister said:
"Mr Speaker, clearly we have achieved a lot in the last three years. In 2020, we will continue with the implementation of all our 16 flagship programmes in order to transform the lives of Ghanaians. These are a few highlights of our programme for 2020".
The initiatives include Free Senior High School (SHS); One District-One Factory; and Planting for Food and Jobs.
The Free Senior High School, for instance, had increased enrolment in Senior High Schools.
"Mr Speaker, the first batch of the free SHS students will be graduating in 2020. Government has released funds to pay for the WASSCE examination fees. We are confident that as a result of the academic intervention programmes we have rolled up, the success rate will be high to prove the sceptics wrong," he said.
Mr Ofori-Atta said 15,000 entrepreneurs would be trained under the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme, out of which 4,000 of them would be financially supported under a Presidential Business Support Programme.
The government would construct 46 green house domes where 2,000 youths will be trained in green house technology and also roll out of the Youth in Industry Initiative to train 40,000 youth.
He reiterated government's commitment to continue to pay for the allowances of a projected 54,108 teacher trainees in all public colleges of education and 49,000 nursing trainees in public health training institutions.
