Accra, Nov. 10, GNA - Ibrahim Tanko, Head Coach of Ghana’s U-23 Football team, the Black Meteors has admitted that, the 1-1 draw against Cameroon was a fair result hoping his team would pull up a great show against hosts Egypt.
Ghana on Friday, came from one goal down to ensure parity against Cameroon in her opening match in the ongoing U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) played at the Cairo International Sports Stadium in Egypt.
Ghana grabbed a deserved point through midfielder Habib Mohammed in the dying embers of the game.
In a press conference after the match, Coach Tanko was optimistic his charges would emerge victorious in the second Group A match against Egypt to light up Ghana’s qualification.
“It is a group of death as touted, countries like Cameroon, Egypt, Mali and Ghana are powerful countries in African football. So then I agree that indeed it is a tough group.
“In tournaments like this, first games are always difficult. We are going to prove ourselves in the next match against Egypt.
“First half against Cameroon was not too good, we were passive but we came strongly into the game in the second half. Against Egypt we are going to try our best to win the game.” he added.
He highlighted on the fact that his team has been strategic in second halves throughout their qualifying matches, adding that, they would come good against Egypt.
He praised his men after the superb fight back promising a great match against giants Egypt.
In a group which house Egypt, Cameroon, Mali searching for a place in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, Ghana has a lot to do after failing to qualify after her last presence at the Athens Olympics in 2004.
