Accra, Nov. 7, GNA - Ghanaian para athlete, Raphael Botsyo Nkegbe has qualified to the semifinal stage of the 100m T54 race at the ongoing World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Having secured qualification to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics with a win at the Desert Challenge Games in Arizona, USA, Botsyo Nkegbe has now set sights on winning gold at the World Championship.
He cruised to the semi-final stage with a time of 14:89secs from the heat and is tipped as one of the athletes to win the gold in the 100m T54 category at the ongoing 2019 World Para Athletics Championships.
The World Para Athletics Championship serves as qualification for the quadrennial Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan.
T54 is a disability sport classification for differently abled athletes in the track and jump events. The class includes people with spinal cord injuries who compete using a wheelchair in track events. They have paraplegia but have normal hand and arm function, normal or limited trunk.
