Ejisu (Ash), Nov 06, GNA - Most Reverend Peter Kwasi Sarpong, Archbishop Emeritus of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi, has urged students in the country’s tertiary institutions to use appropriate legal means to seek redress of their grievances.
He said it was ironic for students of tertiary institutions, regarded as matured persons with high intellectual capabilities, to resort to violent demonstrations without recourse to laid-down regulations for the resolution of grievances.
Most Rev. Kwasi Sarpong, who is also the Chancellor of the Spiritan University College, made the call at the 10th congregation of the University’s campus at Ejisu in the Ashanti Region.
He said often, the aftermath of students’ unlawful acts and violent demonstrations made people wonder if such students were really matured and could be trusted to hold the country together in the unlikely event of national crisis in future.
Most Rev. Kwasi Sarpong said universities were established to train students to be law-abiding, using the skills and expertise acquired to contribute meaningfully to the development of the country.
“It becomes disturbing if tertiary students tend to disregard the law and engage in acts which are detrimental to the security of the country”.
Most. Rev. Kwasi Sarpong, also appealed to the board and management of tertiary educational institutions to always consider the views of their students whenever crucial decisions which could affect their students, were being taken.
He further advised school authorities not to engage in any immoral activities that could undermine the integrity of the universities.
