Ho, July 09, GNA - Nicholas Anani Adzovor, 56, aka Doctor Sharp, a farmer has been remanded into prison custody by a Ho Circuit Court for engaging in illegal abortion.
He pleaded not guilty and will reappear on July 29, 2019.
Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Patience Kuade, told the court presided over by Mrs Priscilla Dikro Ofori that the complainant was Gbandi Gershon, a farmer resident of Lovudo, while the accused is also a farmer, resident at Kpoeta Ashanti near Kpedze.
She said the accused was allegedly known for causing illegal abortions hence the name Doctor Sharp.
The Prosecution said the complainant's daughter Gbandi Belinda (victim), 26, who was a student of CITA Secretarial and Computer Training Institute, Ho, returned home on August 1, 2016, for vacation but later sought permission from her parents to return to the school to do an assignment on August 5, 2016.
She said the victim did not go to the school but rather went to her friend Gariba Deborah, a witness in the case, who then accompanied her to the accused's cottage at Aveho near Kpoeta Ashanti to terminate her two-month old pregnancy.
The prosecution said the accused administered some concoction to the victim which resulted in her reacting with serious pains at her right leg, making her unable to walk, compelling the two to spend the night at the accused's cottage.
She said on August 6, 2016, the witness returned home leaving the victim and the accused alone in the cottage.
The prosecution said however the victim had since not returned home and her whereabout is still unknown.
She said the witness later informed the parents of the victim who went to the cottage of the accused but they did not meet anyone, hence a report was made to the police on January 13, 2017.
The prosecution said on January 19, 2017, the accused was arrested at his hideout where he admitted the offence in his investigative cautioned statement on January 23, 2017.
She said a docket of the case was prepared and forwarded to the Attorney General's Department for study and advice, and upon receipt of advice from the Department the accused was charged.
