Cape Coast, July 09, GNA - Agya Apoh, alias Shatta Wale, a 30-year-old fisherman who defiled a 13-year old girl at Akwandah, a suburb of Elmina, in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality, has been jailed 15 years in hard labour by a Circuit Court in Cape Coast.
He pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement and the Court presided over by Mrs. Abena Amponsah Buansi, convicted him on his own plea.
Prosecuting, Detective Inspector, John Asare Bediako, said the victim's mother (name withheld) is the complainant and lives in the same vicinity with the convict.
He said on Thursday, June 6, 2019, at about 0600 hours, the complainant sent the victim to fetch water from a nearby pond within the vicinity and she was accompanied by her two friends on that mission.
The prosecution said when the convict spotted the girls on their way to the pond side he gave them a hot chase but he managed to grab the victim who could not run as fast her friends, grabbed and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.
The prosecution said in cause of running the two friends on reaching a point, looked back and realisedt the victim was not with them so they returned to the scene only to meet the convict in the act.
He said the two began beating the convict asking him to get up from the victim as they screamed for help, but the convict quickly got up and took to his heals.
The Prosecution said the victim returned home and narrated her ordeal to her mother who sought help from some men in the community who swiftly arrested the convict from his hideout and handed him over to the Elmina Police.
He said the matter was later referred to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Cape Coast.
