Sakumono (GAR), July 8, GNA - Four pupils of the Sakumono TMA Primary School on Monday morning sustained various degrees of injury when a rainstorm ripped off the roof of their school building in Sakumono, Tema.
Three of pupils whose injuries were serous, were rushed to the Sakumono branch of the Trust Hospital for treatment whiles the fourth was given treatment for his minor injuries at the school.
Teachers of the school told the Ghana News Agency that the victims were in kindergarten one, and Primary One and Three, adding that one of them was referred to undertake an x-ray.
According to the local teachers, on Monday morning at about 0815 hours, when lessons were about to start, a rush of cool wind and rain accompanied by a storm swept the school premises.
"Then suddenly, the roof started shaking and lifting as the rain poured into the classroom. The children gathered in one corner of the classroom as they could not be moved to another classroom due to the intensity of the rain," they said.
The teachers had to end classes when the rain subsided while they rushed the injured to the hospital.
They appealed to authorities of the Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA), organizations and well meaning individuals to help roof the school buildings.
Mr Emmanuel Asiamah, Parents Teachers Association (PTA) Chairman of the school, said the school buildings needed urgent re roofing to enable the children return to class adding that learning and teaching materials must also be supplied to aid studies.
When the GNA visited the place, the roof of the classrooms were ripped off, with debris in the classrooms whiles books and other teaching materials were soaked.
