Donkorkrom (E/R), July 9, GNA - Easy Water in partnership with the Afram Plains Development Organization (APDO), non-governmental organizations, have provided water purifying systems to communities situated along river banks across the country.
The donation of the NUF500 watersystem device, is a gesture is to help provide portable and hygienic water for domestic usage by communities along river banks.
The device is able to process highly contaminated water into safe drinkable water on a useful scale without using electricity or external power.
The device comes with 8 polysulfone filters, powered by hand pumping and produces enough drinking water for the communities.
At a visit to one of the sites allocated for the project at Madagascar, a community in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District in the Eastern Region, Mr Nathan W. Levin, the President of Easy Water, said installing a device costs 2,600 dollars adding that so far over 22 rural communities have benefitted from the project.
He said it is the goal of the NGO to assist deprived communities in the country so that diseases related to the usage of contaminated water can be minimised.
Mr Levin said a survey by their NGO indicates that water borne diseases were common in women and children resulting in high mortalities in some villages.
He said the project was being implemented in deprived villages in Ada, Ashanti Region, Kwahu Afram Plains North and Dambai in the Oti Region.
Mr Levin said the NGO intends to offer free skill training for some selected youths in the communities where the projects is situated.
He said an eight member committee has been inaugurated in all the beneficiary communities to take responsibility for the maintenance of the facility.
Mr Levin urged the people to frequently wash their hands with soap under running water to avert any possible disease outbreaks.
Easy Water for Everyone is a non- profit organization in the United State of America (USA) that provides clean drinking water in rural areas with contaminated water sources without electricity.
