Winneba (C/R) June 21, GNA - The Winneba District Magistrate Court, has sentenced a 26-year old driver to 12 months imprisonment for unlawful entry and attempted stealing.
Kojo Mensah alias Frederick Amuzu pleaded guilty and the court convicted him on his own plea.
Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Dorinda Azumah, told the court presided over by Mr. Isaac Oheneba-Kufour that, Mr. Kwame Gyan a driver who resides at Roman School area in Winneba is the complainant, while Amuzu is also a driver at Agona Swedru.
She said the complainant drives a Kia Rio Taxi with registration N0. GE 4562-11 and usually parks it in front of his house after close of work
The Prosecution said due to the rampant theft in the area the complainant became cautious and had to remove the car's battery for safe keeping in his room anytime he closes from work.
Police Sgt. Azumah said on Monday April 15, 2019, at 0100 hours, Amuzu was spotted with his head inside the complainant’s taxi cab on his compound by one Kow Tetteh, who had woken up from his bed to pass urine outside.
According to the Prosecution when the convict was confronted, he told them that he was looking for the driver of the vehicle to send his pregnant wife who was in labour to the hospital.
She said the witness called the complainant and together when they the accused they found an ignition key which Amuzu used to open the door of the taxi and arrested and handed him over to the police.
