Accra, March 8, GNA – The First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has held interactions with some women in positions of power and influence, who would serve as mentors for young girls.
The interactions, therefore, contributed to the launch of the mentorship programme by the First Lady and to match the young girls, drawn from communities within the Greater Accra Region, with their mentors.
The mentorship programme, which was on the theme: "Because I want to Be," an initiative by the Rebecca Foundation, forms part of efforts to groom young women and girls across the country.
Earlier, some of the mentors visited the young girls in their schools to interact with them and introduce them to the programme.
Later in a meeting, the First Lady emphasised the need to drive change in the lives of young underprivileged girls in society.
She expressed appreciation to the mentors for accepting the challenge, saying she was confident about the prospects of success and the social change the initiative would bring.
While pledging commitment to the programme, the mentors called for the encouragement of the girls to maximise the realization of their potentials.
The programme forms part of activities of the International Women's Day, which is being marked today, Friday, March 8.
