Daboase (WR), March 7, GNA - Mr Wilson Arthur, the Wassa East District Chief Executive has said education is critical for the development of any nation and everything should be done to ensure quality education in the country.
Speaking at the 62nd independence parade observed in Daboase, he said the government was committed to the educational welfare of the country hence the implementation of the free SHS policy.
He further stated, that the success of a nation was determined by the number of people who were able to acquire knowledge through formal education.
He therefore advised young persons to take their academics seriously by taking advantage of the free SHS policy to increase their level of education to at least Senior High School and obtain a certificate to back the qualification.
Mr Arthur touching on the theme for this year's independence day celebration ' Celebrating peace and unity in Ghana", said Ghanaians must make efforts to shun tribalism and ethnic conflicts and to also do away with political differences and vigilantism.
He explained that "though our languages may differ we should learn to overcome our differences to celebrate our rich culture in its diversity since we all come together to be identified as Ghanaians"
He solicited that as "we commemorate our independence, we should celebrate in a united voice, diversity and with a source of pride".
The Member of Parliament for Wassa East, Mr Isaac Adjei Mensah who graced the ceremony declared his support towards educational projects and pledged to use his share of the common fund to promote educational activities in the District.
He presented cash and kind awards to the overall best and second best students who excelled in the Basic Education Certificate Examination in the district.
March 6th as independence day is marked on the Ghanaian calendar to be celebrated every year across the country.
