Bawku (UE) March 5, GNA - Mr Daniel Baya Laar, Bawku Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has lauded the implementation of the Accountable, Rule of law and Anti-Corruption programme (ARAP).
Mr Laar said the programme since its inception, has created platforms to educate members of the public on the need to be agents of change through responding positively against corruption, which has been a threat to national development among other things.
Mr Laar who was educating participants at an outreach programme organised by his outfit in some selected communities including Mognori, Gengande, Misiga, Manga, and Bawku-Natinga in the Bawku Municipality and its environs on the need to prevent corruption noted that the NCCE in collaboration with stakeholders would continue its sensitization programme to hold the ARAP in order to help champion the course of responding to the corruption menace.
Mr Laar mentioned that the objective of the programme was to promote good governance in Ghana by reducing corruption and improving on accountability and compliance with the rule of law.
He hinted that assessment of the programme revealed that successful implementation of the programme in educating identifiable groups on ARAP issues in 2018, reduced corruption in some parts of the NCCE operational areas across the country.
Mr Laar hinted that due to the benefits of the programme, the NCCE and its partners would continue to target identifiable groups such as community members, hairdressers, dressmakers, youth groups, traders, government departments and educational institutions among others to educate them on ARAP issues.
Mr Laar disclosed that the ARAP was a joint anti-corruption initiative between the government of Ghana and the European Union and indicated that its target was to integrate the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NACAP) into the ARAP.
Mr Laar educated the participants on the duty of the citizen in preventing corruption, the Whistle Blower Act, the role of the Ghana Police Service, the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and the Legal Aid among other institutions in fighting the menace.
Mr David Adoliba Presiding Member for the Bawku Municipal Assembly lauded the programme and said it had enlightened members of the various electoral areas on the devastating effects of corruption on society.
Mr Adoliba charged the community members to see corruption as a threat to development and expose corrupt officials and community members who may indulge in it.
