Accra, Feb. 20, GNA - Mr Del Aden, the Managing Partner at Delta3 International, an informational Security Advisory Company has urged the private sector, especially the Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to appreciate Cybersecurity technology to protect their operations.
He said Cybersecurity, protection of Internet connected systems including hardware and software and data from Cyberattacks are therefore becoming one of the fastest growing units of businesses globally and Ghana was no exception.
Mr Aden made these comments in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Wednesday on issues of Cybersecurity in Ghana and efforts to create awareness on the menace.
He said most private sector organizations, especially SMEs claimed Cybersecurity was expensive and do not take these issues seriously, but the hackers were interested in them because of the worth of data they have.
"Hackers know management of SMEs will not invest heavily in technology to protect their data base, hence, the attack on them," he added.
He said government together with the Cybersecurity secretariat and the Ministry of Communications were doing its best to create awareness on the issues of Cybersecurity with the launch of Cyber week and month.
The Cybersecurity Expert commended government for the efforts, but said the compliance regime was still minimal.
He said the Bank of Ghana’s Cyber and information security directives were quite good on paper but ‘how far and how much’ Banks would adhere to these directives for its full implementation, was another issue.
The directive according to the Bank is to create a secure environment within “cyberspace” for the financial services industry and generate adequate trust and confidence in ICT systems as well as transactions in the cyberspace.
It is also to create an assurance framework for design of security policies and for promotion of compliance to global security standards and best practices by way of cyber and information security assessment; strengthen the Regulatory framework for ensuring a secure environment within cyberspace.
The directive will enhance the protection and resilience of the financial systems; operation and provide security practices related to the design, acquisition, development, and use of operation information resources and improve the integrity of ICT products and services by establishing infrastructure for testing and validation of security of these products and services.
He said if information from all the Banks would be kept at one central pool, that might be dangerous because it will make it easier for hackers but when this information were segregated, it makes it difficult to hack.
He said his Company was working with leading Information Technology experts to organise the first Ghana InfoSec and Information Technology leaders’ conference slated for March 29, 2019.
He said the conference would afford participants the opportunity to meet experts to discuss Ghana's fight against Cybercrimes and attacks.
"The conference will also focus on exploring the current security landscape in Africa and how IT and business leaders could prepare for the future challenges of Cybersecurity and data privacy," he added.
