Accra, Feb. 18, GNA - Persons conducting business at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), have been urged not to give in to extortion by any airport personnel, but rather report such cases.
People who experience such extortion should report to the Consumer Complaints unit, which is within the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, at [email protected] or +233(0)302773927/0261700687.
A release signed by Mr. Simon Allotey, Director General, GCAA, said the attention of the GCAA had been drawn to allegations of coercion and extortion by uniformed personnel, working at the KIA.
It said such practices were highly unprofessional, unethical and unacceptable, adding that, the Authority had set up a task force to investigate the matter and in the same vein, requested the Ghana Airports Company Ltd (GACL), to put measures in place to curb such practices.
“The Authority will continue to ensure that passengers are not harassed and will sanction any person or group of persons, found engaging in acts at our airports that tarnish the image of our country,” the release said.
