Accra, Feb. 18, GNA - The Rotary Club of Accra- Legon, as part of its annual projects, has handed over a furnished Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Laboratory to the Aplaku M/A 2 Basic School to aid the study of ICT.
It spent nearly GH¢65,000 to refurbish and equip and the lab with three Dell desktop computers, a projector and furniture to also aid the pupils to gain practical experience in the area.
Speaking to GNA on the sidelines of the programme, the President of the Rotary Club, Ms Valentina Kumadey, said the Club visited the Aplaku Community in the Ga South Municipality to conduct a health screening exercise, on 23rd of February 2018, during the Family Health Day Programme of the Club.
The headmistress of the Aplaku M/A 2 Basic School, she said, approached them and sought their help in solving some of the challenges affecting the School, which included stocking the ‘empty library and empty computer lab.’
Ms Kumadey said the request fell within their six areas of focus so they decided to help.
She said the project was funded with assistance from corporate organisations, with MTN supporting with GH¢20,000.00.
The Headmistress of the School, Mrs Ruby Mildred Dzantor, expressed gratitude for the gesture and pledged to take good care of the equipment.
Aplaku M/A 2 Basic School is the only Government School within the Ga South Municipality to have a computer lab.
Mrs. Esther Batsa one of the three ICT teachers, who could not hide her joy, recounted how they had been struggling without the basic teaching and learning equipment and expressed her relief at the positive development.
Mr. Khrushcher Kwame Appiah, the Assistant Director of the Municipal Authority, thanked Rotary Club of Accra-Legon for their support.
