Accra, Feb. 6, GNA - The Ghana Journalists Association will on Friday, February 8, hold a memorial service and forum for the late investigative journalist, Mr Ahmed Hussein-Suale, a member of Tiger Eye Investigations Team.
A statement from the Association and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday said the event is also to draw public attention to the unwarranted attacks on the media.
It said the Association is calling on the all heads of media houses, training institutions, journalists and media practitioners and the public to participate in the event, which would take place at the Ghana International Press Centre, Accra at 1000 hours.
“The GJA is also extending invitations to leaders of political parties, ministers of state, members of parliament, heads of private institutions, members of the diplomatic corps, public relations practitioners and friends of the media to participate in the memorial service.
“The service is to eulogize the late journalist and solidarise with the media in the quest to end attacks on journalists,” the statement said.
It said representatives from the Muslim, Christian and Pentecostal Councils as well as the Catholic Bishop Conference are also invited.
The statement said the event is expected to be attended by Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Minister of Information, leadership of the National Media Commission, Ghana Police Service, National Peace Council, Amnesty International and civil society organisations.
It said the attire for the event would be black with red arm band or red with black arm band.
Mr Hussein-Suale was on Wednesday, January 16, this year shot dead by some unknown assailants at Madina around the Taxi Rank near the Catholic Church on his way home. Hussein-Suale was a lead investigator with Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ Tiger Eye PI.
