Accra, Feb. 3, GNA - New International Boxing Federation (IBF) Lightweight Champion, Richard Commey (28-2, 25 Ko's) will face Vasiliy Lomachenko (12-1,9 Ko's) in a unification bout in April 12, 2019.
Commey handed Russia's Isa Chaniev a round two knockout, to annex the vacant IBF Lightweight title at the Ford Centre in Frisco, Texas, USA.
Commey, thus becomes Ghana's ninth Champion, would now have the chance for unification when he faces Ukraine's Lomachenko, the top pound-for-pound contender and World Boxing Organization (WBO) and World Boxing Authority (WBA) title holder.
Commey demonstrated of his determination to win the title for his motherland having missing out on his first opportunity against Robert Easter Jr. in 2016.
Commey does become the third Ghanaian to win an IBF title with Joshua Clottey and Joseph Agbeko being the other two winners.
The 31-year-old boxer could also make history for Ghana, as he could become the first Champion to hold three titles among the three sanctioning bodies in the same weight class in he wins the next fight.
The World boxing entourage will be highly anticipating this fascinating pairing between Commey and Lomachenko considering their explosive style of boxing.
