Accra, Feb. 2, GNA - Global Media Alliance (GMA), the organiser of the Ghana Beverage Awards (GBA), has launched the 2018 Edition of the awards with the introduction of four additional categories into the awards scheme to honour more players in the beverage industry.
The new categories are; International wine of the year, International beer of the year, International spirit of the year and New Beverage of the year, aimed at acknowledging the contribution of the foreign beverage market in refreshing Ghanaians.
It was to encourage strong and healthy multicultural relationships with their foreign counterparts according to Mr Ernest Boateng, Chief Executive Officer of the GMA.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Boateng said the Awards ceremony, which commenced in 2016 with the primary aim of recognising authorised and excelling beverage brands in the country has been able to hold two successful Award ceremonies.
He said this year, they were looking forward to do even more as they grow their brand, recognising that beverage producers were a major stakeholder, if not the most important stakeholder in the beverage industry, thus necessitating the opening up the product of the year category to the public to nominate their favourite beverage.
“Through the nomination process, we intend making the ordinary Ghanaian to own the awards and remain informed about the process,” he added.
The GMA having introduced Drink Ghana, at the launch of the Third Edition of GBA has the theme: “Drink Ghana, Inspiring Excellence in Ghana’s Beverage industry,” which is aimed at promoting local beverages, with the Drink Ghana complementing the work of the Ghana Tourism Authority and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture in igniting the ‘’I am Ghanaian’’ spirit.
Madam Catherine Afeku, the Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister, who was the Special Guest of Honour for the event, thanked GMA for coming up with such an initiative.
She said GMA had made strides in celebrating the beverage industry and urged the beverage producers to come up with innovative ways in which more traditional Ghanaian drinks like; Asaana, Sobolo, and Palm Wine; could be well packaged, branded and sold internationally.
The prestigious award, with the objective of honouring the diligent beverage producers of this country as well as to create a platform for stakeholders in the industry to interact with each other for their collective good has the Food and Beverage Association of Ghana (FABAG), Food Research Institute (FRI) under Centre for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), as the organising partners.
The award categories displayed were; Product Specific, Spirit of the Year, Beer of the Year, Bitters of the Year, Water of the Year, Ciders/RTD of the Year, CSD of the Year, Cocoa/Chocolate/Diary drink of the Year, Energy drink of the Year, Fruit juice of the year.
The general categories are manufacturer of the Year and Product of the Year.
