Kumasi, Jan. 25, GNA – Alliance for Reproductive Health Rights (ARHR), a Civil Society Organization (CSO), has appealed to the government to do more to improve the infrastructure and raise the quality of care at the Community-based Health Planning Services (CHPS) compounds.
Nana Aisha Mohammed, Health Financing Consultant of the Alliance, said there was urgent need to complete construction works on abandoned CHPS compounds scattered across the country and to equip them to function properly.
Speaking at meeting held for CSO’s in health in Kumasi, she said completing and equipping these compounds would help to increase access to quality health care, especially among people in hard-to-reach communities.
It was organized by Universal Access to Health Care Campaign (UAHCC) and the theme was “The 2019 health budget statement – is Ghana investing enough to achieve universal health coverage”.
The goal was to provide a platform to discuss gaps in the 2019 budget statement for the health sector and flag up areas that needed to receive priority attention.
Nana Aisha said dwindling financial support for infrastructure, goods and services made it expedient to ensure that the national health insurance scheme was strengthened.
That also reinforces the need to promote the CHPS compound concept to fill the gaps in health care delivery.
She asked that strategies were devised to generate additional revenue to finance health care delivery.
There should also be innovative ways to ways to address the high wage bill in the health sector and channel more resources to finance capital expenditure in the sector.
Nii Ankonu Annorbah-Sarpei, Campaign Coordinator for UAHCC, called for equitable distribution of health staff across the nation
NGOs in health would continue to advocate for improved healthcare, for all Ghanaians.
