Tarkwa (W/R), January 18, GNA - A small scale miner has been jailed 20 years by the Tarkwa circuit court for allegedly robbing another miner of two smart mobile phones valued GH¢2,300, gold worth GH¢450 and cash of GH¢8,900.
The convict, Emmanuel Quayson, alias One Goal pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea.
Police Chief Inspector Faustina Celestina Anaman, informed the court that, on December 16, 2018, around 0030 hours, the complainant was asleep in his room at Fureso, a village near Prestea when Quayson and two others by name scorpion and High Tension both at large attacked him.
She said the convict and his accomplices after taking the complainant's two mobile phones, gold and money they left their face masks, locally manufactured pistol and pepper spray in the room and bolted with the items.
According to Inspector Anaman, while the three were embarking on the robbery, the complainant watched them closely and later reported them case to the police in Prestea.
She said on December 29, 2018, Quayson was nabbed by the police in Wassa Akropong for causing harm.
The Prosecution said the complainant had the information and went to the Wassa Akropong Police station where he identified the convict and later informed the Prestea police.
She said Quayson was transported to the Prestea and during interrogation he admitted the offence in his caution statement and explained that scorpion and High Tension assisted him to commit the crime.
