Tarkwa (W/R), January 18, GNA - A Tarkwa circuit court has fined a 21 year-old man GH¢6,000 for stealing electrical cables worth GH¢8,170.00.
Isaac Mensah, a mason apprentice and a resident of Brahabebom, a suburb of Tarkwa pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing and would go to prison for 36 months in default.
Prosecuting, Detective Inspector Clement Amoah said the complainant was a mason and resides at Essamang Kakraba in Tarkwa.
On November 6, 2018, the complainant was in front of his house when the accused came to pass with a bag on his back.
He said the accused person then proceeded to the house of Emmanuel Ahamah, a neighbour of the complainant and told him that he was a mason who had come to help curb the rampant theft cases recorded in the area.
Detective Amoah said after Mensah had introduced himself, he went to the house where the complainant was the caretaker broke into it and stole electrical cables valued GH¢8,170.00
The Prosecution said Ahamah who is a witness in the case spotted the accused person while he was trying to hide his booty in an uncompleted building adjacent his house.
The prosecution said the witness approached Mensah and demanded to inspect his bag but he took to his heels but the niegbours around helped to apprehend him.
Detective Amoah said when a search was conducted in his bag they found electrical cables, marking tape, spirit level and pinch bar.
He said the complainant was informed of the incident and accused was subsequently handed over to the police to investigate him.
