Sirigu (UE) Jan. 14, GNA – The Administrator of the Mother of Mercy Babies Home at Sirigu in the Upper East Region has appealed to members of the public to support the Home to cater for an epileptic mother and her new born baby.
Reverend Sister Delphina Zoomie who made the appeal said the epileptic woman lived around the Home at Sirigu in the Kassena-Nankana West District.
Sister Zoomie who is also a retired midwife made the appeal in an interview with the GNA and said the mother of the baby could not take care of the baby on her own considering her health condition and status.
She said the 20-year-old mother whose name was given only as Yaa was also dumb and prior to her delivery spent most of her life loitering around the orphanage for food and making a living at the mercy of visitors to the orphanage.
Her baby girl is currently in the care of the management of the Home because she was unable to breast feed and care for her.
She said the baby who is now three months “is at the orphanage on charity basis”, and was named Theresa.
She said the baby fed on Lactogen and other food supplements because she could not be breastfeed.
The Administrator reiterated her call on philanthropic individuals and institutions to support management of the Home to acquire some essentials such as baby diapers, toiletries and baby clothing for the upkeep of baby Theresa.
Yaa’s baby adds up to five infants being catered for at the Orphanage.
There are 13 other children from the ages of two to seven years.
