BUJUMBURA, Dec. 11 (Xinhua/GNA) - The Burundian public security ministry on Monday accused the Rwandan marine of arresting four Burundian fishermen Sunday in Lake Rweru waters in Kirundo province, northern Burundi.
The fishermen were "abducted" by the Rwandan marine, spokesperson for Burundian Ministry of Public Security and Disaster Management Pierre Nkurikiye said on Twitter.
They were "unlawfully captured" by Rwandan soldiers at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday as they were in Burundian waters, said Kirundo governor Alain Tribert Mutabazi in an interview with Burundi National Radio.
Rwanda shares Lake Rweru with Burundi. According to Mutabazi, one of the fishermen has evaded from the Rwandan marine.
Relations between Burundi and Rwanda have deteriorated after Burundi accused Rwanda of hosting and supporting perpetrators of the 2015 coup plot against Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza.
