Accra, Dec. 11, GNA - The annual Pastors and Directors Conference of Compassion International Ghana, an NGO, is underway in at the Pentecost Convention Centre in Gomoah Fetteh near Kasoa in the Central Region.
The five-day conference is “aimed at strengthening fellowship and foster a common understanding of strategic partnership direction in releasing children from poverty in Jesus name”.
The conference is on the theme “Break Camp and Advance-A Movement Together”.
Mrs Gifty Dansoah Appiah, the National Director, Compassion International Ghana said the conference was to engage members to network and share ideas in charting the path towards the development of children in the country.
The National Director called for mind-set change of all partners to achieve their goals - ensuring that more children are released from poverty.
“Compassion aspires to advance its mission of releasing children from poverty from just a slogan to a movement where all churches in the country will ‘buy in and sell’ child development as a necessity and a responsibility for all and sundry”.
She urged the Church partners to empower the youth to make a significant difference in society because they were trained and equipped with the power and teaching of Christ Jesus.
Mrs Appiah urged participants to leave the conference with a mind-set to embrace and implement more development programmes to bring about holistic development of children in all communities.
She said the organisation, in partnership with 329 frontline Churches, had impacted positively on 77,653 lives of underprivileged children in the country, through its social programmes, including education, medical check-up, and disaster relief.
Mrs Appiah stated that the organisation since its inception in 2006, had supported over 500 students who had completed and some studying at the tertiary level.
Dr Joyce Aryee, the Advisory Council Chair, Compassion International Ghana, said God had been merciful for the organisation stressing “We could not have come this far without the healthy and fruitful partnership with all partner Churches.
She thanked God for the great work done through the organisation for the vulnerable children in the country and emphasised that, “there is still more work to be done to release most of them from poverty”.
“This calls for togetherness and effective partnership. We must all join hands and effectively champion this movement to break more grounds and advance our course”, she added.
Dr Aryee encouraged all Church Partners to come together, irrespective of one’s denomination, to make a covenant to champion children’s issues.
She stated that, the organisation could not do all by itself, adding that, issues of partnership and strategic alliance were critical to the growth and survival of their mandate.
She urged the Church to go beyond the local Church and ensure all Church leaders was trained to make children safe in the local Church.
“As a key strategic intent, we have decided to include denominational heads in all our conversations and will involve them in strategic decisions in moving the organisation forward”.
Right Reverend Paul Kwabena Boafo, the Presiding Bishop Elect, Methodist Church of Ghana, encouraged the Pastors and the Church leaders to always depend on God and listen to His voice to speak in their time.
He said total dependence on God would help Compassion and the Church partners to break camp and advance in their mission of releasing the most vulnerable children from poverty.
“God is provoking Compassion to advance in the development of children issues in the country to the glory of God”, he added.
The organisation operates in seven regions- Ashanti, Eastern, Central, Brong Ahafo, Western, and Volta.
