Bongo (UE), Dec. 10, GNA – Mr Peter Ayamga Ayinbisa, the Bongo District Chief Executive (DCE), has called for scientific research into the causes of the high incidence of disability in the district.
He described as alarming the number of persons in the area born with various forms of disability and said that could hurt its human resource.
He invited institutions, NGOs and individuals to be interested in finding out what was causing these.
The DCE made the call during the disbursement of the disability fund in Bongo, the district capital.
Mr Ayinbisa said the assembly had registered over 4,000 persons with disability (PWDs).
He added that when the reasons became known solutions could be found to reverse the trend.
A total of GH¢65,634.00 was disbursed to 48 PWDs to undertake income generating activities to become economically self-dependent.
This was the third time, this year, that the assembly was disbursing the disability fund to beneficiaries.
The DCE said an amount of GH¢18,170.00 had been approved by the assembly for procurement of various items including deep freezers, tricycles and sewing machines for 13 of the PWDs.
Another amount of GH¢28,200.00 was also going to be used to buy goats and sheep for supply to 52 other persons to go into animal rearing.
He advised the beneficiaries to use the money wisely to transform their lives.
