Old Ningo (GAR), Dec. 10, GNA - The Ningo-Prampram District Assembly (NIPDA) says it would consult the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs for the interpretation of a ruling on a protracted chieftaincy case in Ningo.
Mr Jonathan Teye Doku, Ningo-Prampram District Chief Executive, who was speaking during the National Farmers' Day celebration at Old Ningo, said it was critical for the Assembly to consult the House for the interpretation as both factions claim they have won the case.
Mr Doku explained that even though his outfit thought that with the judgment recently given on the chieftaincy issue, peace would reign in the area, both factions wrote to the Assembly announcing that they would be installing a chief as the ruling was in their favour.
He indicated that the District Security Council (DISEC) wrote back to them informing them that their request did not comply with the Public Order Law which enjoins organizers of public gatherings to inform the police at least five days prior to the programme.
He further noted that they informed them that both factions could not win the same case therefore DISEC would not allow any of them to install a chief until an interpretation had been received on the judgment.
The DCE gave the assurance that after receiving the interpretation, the Assembly would fully support the faction that the ruling favoured to install a chief and promote peace and unity in the area.
Nene Kano Atiapa III, Acting President of Ningo Traditional Council and Makralo of Ningo, said the Council was making efforts for the area to get a paramount chief and therefore appealed to residents and the factions to cooperate with them and the Assembly to maintain peace in the area.
The Ghana News Agency had witnessed an unusual heavy military presence in old Ningo town.
