Accra, Dec. 6, GNA - Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has extended their partnership with World Vision Ghana (WVG) in the literacy boost program.
The partnership, which started in 2016, saw KOICA invest $1.3 million dollars in WVG's literacy boost project in the Fanteakwa District in the Eastern Region and a similar project was replicated in the Afram Plains District from 2019-2021.
The KOICA-World Vision Literacy Boost Project seeks to equip teachers in using tools and skills they have acquired through complementary training in aiding the children to acquire reading skills with improved understanding.
Yukyum Kim, Country Director of KOICA, in his address at the literacy boost endline dissemination meeting, highlighted the educational challenges that confront partner countries as they seek to bridge the gap.

Mr Kim said '' KOICA’s global strategic vision is to have an inclusive development through quality education and ensure education for all by strengthening educational systems in partner countries.
Mr Anis Haffer, Chairman for the event, said the significance of boosting literacy and elevating the standing of reading is important as it serves as the backbone of improving the human infrastructure.
Literacy is a challenge that affects many countries around the world and every country has that responsibility to elevate the standard of reading, he said.
He called on parents to cultivate the habit of reading as this would make an impact on the children as well as provide a conducive environment for them.
''We can't underestimate the negative effects of our own culture on young people. Literacy is not a one man show, so I entreat you to monitor your children in school and offer them the necessary support, Mr Haffer said.
Mr Dickens Thunde, National Director of World Vision International, in a speech read on his behalf by Madam Frances Nkrumah, expressed appreciation to the efforts of all stakeholders who worked toward making the project a success.
"World Vision would not have achieved this alone, without the help of the district officials, teachers and community leaders who whole heartedly embraced the project funded by KOICA," he said
