New Abirem (E/R), Nov. 28, GNA - Dr. Seth Kwame Boafo, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of S. K. Boafo Travel and Tours and a renowned businessman, has called on government to make major roads in the country dual carriage ways to help reduce the rampant carnages on the roads.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at New Abirem in the Birim North District, he mentioned few samples of such roads like Nkawkaw- Kumasi and Brong Ahafo Region to Paga roads.
He said although the government was working hard to end road accidents in the country, vehicle owners also have a role to play by adopting modern techniques such as owning alcohol meter, frequently carrying out pre- start checks, tracking system and organising safety meetings for their workers such as drivers and transport operators.
He cautioned drivers to avoid speeding, the use of mobile phones when driving and to stay away from alcohol before and during the Christmas festivities to help minimize accident cases.
Dr Boafo urged the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service to monitor and carry out thorough checks on vehicles, more especially private cars, adding that they were the main causes of accidents on our roads.
He advised that more towing cars be put on the roads during the Christmas festivities to quickly remove broken down vehicles from the road to prevent accidents.
