Accra, Nov.28 GNA - Mr Hans De Beer, chairman for the organizing committee of the 5th Goldfields Professional Golfers Association (PGA) Golf Championship has cautioned golfers to be discipline and play with integrity at the ongoing annual Damang championship.
Mr De Beer at the Tee off noted that, though it was very tedious playing at the Damang Course, it was important for golfers to exhibit professionalism and high integrity, as they seek to win more laurels outside Ghana.
"The Damang Course is one of the most difficult courses in the country but, that was necessary since we are preparing golfers for international competitions.
"It is important to honour the discipline on the golf course since that is the only way to excel in international competitions, which have more difficult courses”.
According to him, the 2016 edition winner, Vincent Torgah looks the favourite to win the competition following his incredible run throughout the year though defending champion, Kojo Bannie would give him a run for his money.
Mr Ahmed Padori, Senior Executive Member at the PGA, also urged golfers to contribute their quota to ensuring a very successful competition, saying “it was important to abide by the rules and be courteous all times especially to prepare golfers for tougher challengers outside Ghana”.
The seven days competition, which runs from 27th November to 2nd December, 2018 would have 72 golfers drawn from Togo, Nigeria, Senegal, Zimbabwe and Ghana.
The championship, which is being sponsored by Toyota, BCM, Engineers and Planners, Genser Energy, ATS and Zen Ghana would have GH¢35,000.00 as the prize money for the overall winner and coincide with the 25th anniversary celebration of Goldfields.
Meanwhile the brand new Toyota vehicle up for grasp for the hole-in-one play was missed narrowly by defending champion Kojo Bannie.
