Accra, Nov. 21, GNA - Houssein Saloum, head coach of the Malian national female football team, has said, his team played above themselves to beat Ghana by 2-1 in second Group A game in the ongoing African Women Cup (AWCON) 2018 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
According to coach Saloum, playing the host nation had never been easy, but we went bent on winning to remain in the competition.
“I must congratulate my team for the great job done, playing Ghana wasn’t easy but they were equal to the task.
“They played to instructions and played above themselves to keep us in the competition, we told ourselves before this game that we cannot afford to lose again after losing to Cameroon in our first game”.
Coach Saloum noted that, though they were in a jubilant mood, but they would prepare well for the last game as they seek to make it out of the group stages.
“Every game has its approach and style and we will prepare well for our next game, we would work on some few errors and get set for our final group game against Algeria”.
Mali beat Ghana by 2:1 to make amends for losing to Cameroon in their first game at the Accra Sports Stadium.
