Bolgatanga, Nov. 6, GNA - The TOENDE Students’ Union, in the Bawku West District, has organized sensitization fora in some educational institutions in the Upper East Region to educate members on upcoming activities of the Union.
The fora are platforms geared at creating unity among members of the Union and finding lasting ways of putting on board developmental projects such as promoting education, health and livelihood sustainability among others that could enhance the welfare of the people.
The Union, formed in 1969 with a motto, “Unity and Education our Concern” is aimed at promoting unity and encouraging young people in the Bawku West District to take formal education serious.
Addressing members of the Union at the Bolgatanga Nursing Training College, Mr Bismark Issifu, the President of the Kongo Senior High School branch of the Union, outlined the year’s programme that was aimed at bringing the youth especially students together to realize the need for unity and inclusiveness in the area.
He said programmes such as the Tonsu Basic Science and Mathematics Quiz Competition and the cleanup exercise that had earlier on been undertaken, would help promote sanitation and the study of mathematics and science in the area.
He said the Union had organized a press conference among other programmes to put pressure on duty bearers to complete the Bolgatanga- Bawku- Pulmakom road, which had been abandoned.
The Union would climax the activities with a beauty pageant, football gala and a get- together ceremony to climax the year’s programme.
Mr Issifu called on new and existing members to hold high the standards of the patrons including Professor Goerge Agbango, Mr Sulley Agolisi and Retired Reverend Dr. Jacob Ayeebo of the Union because they were worth emulating.
