Sunyani, Nov. 01, GNA - The National Youth Authority (NYA) on Thursday called on the youth to join the campaign and play their part in fight against corruption to save national purse.
According to the NYA, the youth could become active advocates, participate and take leading roles in the fight against the national canker if they themselves guarded against acts of corruption.
Mr Pascal Edwards, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Director of the NYA said the Authority had opportunities for young people to access funding and join the anti-corruption advocacy and advised the youth to form groups to access the funds.
Addressing students at a forum in Sunyani to mark this year's African Youth Day (AYD), Mr Edwards said corruption and its effects posed great inhibiting factors in the country's developmental trajectory.
The AYD which falls on November 1 every year, was instituted by the African Union (AU) in 2006 to promote the increased recognition of youth as key agents for social change, economic growth and sustainable development.
Mr Edwards observed that the youth as a major player in national development ought to understand the ramifications and be part of the solution by re-defining specific roles for themselves to control corruption.
In a speech read for him, Mr Evans Opoku Bobie, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister designate urged young people to remain as agents of change and contribute to social issues that affected their lives.
He said though there were several challenges confronting the youth in the country, they must endeavour to channel their exuberances into product ventures so that they would grow to become responsible adults.
Mr Bobie reminded the youth that they had a huge mandate to move the nation forward, and advised them to take advantage of, register and benefit from the Planting for Food and Jobs and the Nation's Builders Corps to improve on their socio-economic livelihood.
He also advised the youth to develop interest and take active part in the social, economic and political issues affecting their communities.
Mr Ekow Eshun, Director of Administration and Human Resources of the NYA, entreated the youth to adopt positive and noble ideals of patriotism, hard work, communalism and high sense of civility.
