Savelugu (N/R), Oct. 29, GNA - The Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC) has presented essential medical equipment to the Savelugu Government Hospital and Moglaa Health Centre to ensure improved health care delivery whiles reducing maternal and child mortality.
The equipment included ultra sound machines, radiant warmers, biochemistry analyzers, patient monitors, delivery sets, dressing sets, infant resuscitation sets, and suture.
The presentation formed part of the CCFC’s Promoting Maternal, Newborn, Infant and Child Sustainable Health Efforts (PROMISE) project funded by the Global Affairs Canada to contribute to a reduction in maternal and child mortality in the Northern Region.
Dr Heather Cameron, Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, who presented the equipment to the facilities at Savelugu in the Northern Region, said “The provision of essential medical equipment to 23 health facilities will further improve health service delivery in the Northern Region”.
Dr Cameron said the CCFC’s PROMISE Project served as a tangible expression of Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy, which sought to eradicate poverty and build a more peaceful, inclusive and prosperous world.
Mr Salifu Saeed, Northern Regional Minister commended CCFC and the Government of Canada for their support to the health facilities in the Region to complement government’s efforts at improving health care delivery.
Mr Saeed urged the beneficiary facilities to take good care of the equipment to deliver results to the people.
Mr George Baiden, Country Director of CCFC, said the project had made significant progress stating “In May 2018, a mid-term survey was conducted and I am proud to say that 53,925 people had been reached (22,497 women and children under five had been reached directly and 31,428 indirectly).”
Mr Baiden said “to build capacity at health facility levels, 18 community health nurses and enrolled nurses were given a 10-week training in midwifery task sharing to help reduce the midwifery gap in the intervention districts.”
Dr John Abenyeri, Acting Northern Regional Director of Health Services, said the equipment would contribute significantly to addressing the challenge of inadequate basic equipment needed for quality service delivery at the facilities.
Yoo-Naa, Abukari Mahama, Paramount Chief of Savelugu, emphasized the need for authorities to prioritize health care delivery in the area appealing to government to construct an ultra-modern health facility in the area for improved health service delivery.
Hajia Ayishetu Seidu, Municipal Chief Executive for Savelugu thanked CCFC and the Government of Canada for supporting the health facilities in the Municipality.
