Accra, Oct. 29, GNA – Mr Albert Kofi Owusu, newly appointed General Manager of the Ghana News Agency (GNA) holds a Master of Business Administration Degree in Project Management from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).
This was preceded by Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Administration from the same institution.
A professional journalist, who graduated from the Ghana Institute of Journalism in 1991, Mr Owusu was the General Manager of TV Africa, where he led in the strategic management and planning of News and Current Affairs operations.
He was responsible for Ethical, Editorial, Artistic and Technical Standards for broadcast of programmes and for the journalistic integrity of all station activities and platforms.
Mr Owusu played a key supporting role in the general administrative functions and supervised the day to day management of station.
He worked very closely with subordinate managers to ensure the smooth and successful operations of the TV Africa in consultation with the Chief Executive Officer to finalise plans, supervise activities, and to take corrective actions, when necessary.
Mr Owusu also served as the General Manager, Metro TV, from December 2014 to February, 2016 and was responsible for day to day operations and coordination all activities to ensure consistency with the company’s stated objectives and enhance its corporate image.
Mr Owusu has also worked as General Manager, the EIB Network Ghana Limited in charge of Ultimate Radio 106.9, Kumasi, 2011 – 2014; was Media Consultant to GTZ from 2009 – 2011; and Programmes Director at the Multimedia Group (Joy FM) Accra, Ghana, 2006 – 2010.
At the Multimedia, Mr Owusu was responsible for developing programme content, strategy and operations of Joy FM and its sub brands, including the station’s website, myjoyonline.com.
He also performed regular programming audit or audience research to evaluate performance of programming teams and operations.
He also served briefly as the Acting General Manager of the Multimedia Group (Joy FM) Accra, August-December, 2006; and was News Editor, Multimedia Group (Joy FM) Accra, Ghana from 2002 – 2006.
He was the Assistant News Editor from 2000-2002.
The National Media Commission (NMC) in consultation with the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, last week announced the appointment of Mr Albert Kofi Owusu, as the new General Manager of the Ghana News Agency.
The appointment is in consonance with the 1992 Constitution, which mandates the NMC to appoint chief executive officers and governing boards of the state-owned media organisations, in consultation with the President.
Nana Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng, the Chairman of the NMC, signed the statement announcing the appointment, which was copied to the Ghana News Agency, in Accra on Friday.
The Commission also appointed Mr Benjamin Ato Afful as the Managing Director of the Graphic Communications Group Limited, Mr Augustine Yampson, as Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.
