Accra, Oct. 22, GNA - The maiden edition of the "Yoyo Tinz" festival has been launched in Accra last Saturday, as Ghana prepares to celebrate maiden African hip-hop culture.
The forthcoming week long festival to be held at former "La Race Course" behind the Trade Fair, would be between November 19-25, with various hip hop acts across the continent engaging in rap, graffiti, beatboxing, breakdancing, DJing, among many other thrilling events.
According to Selorm Jay, Director of "Yoyo Tinz", this year's festival was to commemorate their five year existence in broadening the scope of hiphop culture in Ghana and offering a common platform to celebrate Africa hiphop culture.
"The main objective of creating this "Yoyo Tin" festival platform, was to look at how hiphop translates in our language and setting.
"Yoyo Tinz" basically means things of hiphop and we want to use this platform to promote the underground artistes, but the well established artiste would also be part," Selorm said.
He also explained the rationale behind the festival’s mascot, a goat, which according to him symbolizes determination, stubbornness, and vitality, elements that are fully embedded in the hip hop culture.
''Yoyo Tinz'' outfit has helped outfits like Alliance Française Accra, organised successful hip hop festivals and has appeared at the popular ''Chale Wote'' Street Art Festival over the past years.
