Accra, Oct. 21, GNA - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration (MOFRI) on Saturday organised a Unity Walk along some principal streets of Accra to mark the beginning of the United Nations (UN) Day Commemoration.
The walk, which drew participation from officials of MOFRI, members of the Ghana Security Services and a cross section of the Ghanaian populace, commenced from MOFRI head office through to the Jubilee House and back to the MOFRI head office for the aerobics session.
Mr Francis Kotia, Director Multilateral Relations Bureau at MOFRI said; "the essence of this unity walk is to bring attention to the working of the UN and its various agencies within the country and across the globe."
"From next week we would have other activities lined-up. The highlights of the activities would be on Wednesday, which would be the flag raising ceremony at the forecourt of the State House. The activities centre around the theme of the 73rd United Nations General Assembly session this year.
"The theme runs through the year from September 2018 to September 2019, where it would have run its course and a new theme would be released by the UN General Assembly".
He said the walk was the initial stage of the activities and would be culminated with the flag raising ceremony, which would be preisded over by Miss Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.
The theme for this year's UN Day celebration is; 'Making the United Nations relevant to all people: Global Leadership and Shared responsibilities for peaceful, equitable and sustainable societies'
