Accra, Oct. 3, GNA – The Accra Turf Club (ATC) has announced that the third Ga Homowo Special horseracing would come off on Saturday, October 6, at the new race course at Borteyman, near the University of Ghana Farms in Accra.
The race is in collaboration with the Horse Owners Association and forms part of activities to round up the 2018 Homowo Festival.
Mr Samuel Nii Armah Turkson, the secretary of the Board of Stewards of the ATC told the GNA Sports that, the horseraces, which started two weeks ago to climax the activities of the Homowo Festival, would come with many surprises surprises in the third week.
He said the first races dubbed: “Otuopai Handicap”, which would combine "4A" and "3B" covering a distance of 1,600 metres of eight furlongs, would see nine horses competing for honours.
In the second races captioned: “Gbese Purse” of Division "4B" and "4C" would cover a distance of 1,400 metres of eight furlongs with 12 horses contending.
The third races christened: “Nungua Handicap” a maiden Division ‘3A’, which would cover a distance of 1,400 metres of seven furlongs would bring 14 horses to vie for honours.
A novies division labeled: “Adabraka Purse” would welcome 15 registered ‘Made in Ghana’ horses in a five-furlong covering 1,000 metres.
Mr Turkson said the gate to the race course would be opened at 1330 hours and that a token of GH¢2.00 would be charged.
He urged horse owners to confirm their horses’ participation in the competition by October 4, 2018 at 1400 hours and appealed to stakeholders and corporate bodies to support the sport.
