Daboase (W/R), Sept. 26, GNA - A total of 274 first year students have been admitted into the Free Senior High School programme at the Daboase Senior High and Technical School in the Wassa East District of the Western Region.
The new entrants comprise 174 boys and 100 girls pursuing various courses in Arts, Science and Technical programmes.
Mr Anthony Insaidoo, the Headmaster of the School, made this known when the District Chief Executive for Wassa East, Mr Wilson Arthur, the District Coordinating Director, Mr Ernest Frank Oduro, and the Director of Education, Ms Ernestina Christiana Winful, among other officials paid a visit to the School to monitor the second batch of the implementation of the Free SHS programme in the District.
Addressing the students after an orientation programme organised by the School, Mr Arthur commended the authorities for ensuring a hitch-free policy implementation.
He said the Government was fully aware of the challenges confronting the implementation but would not allow that to curtail the future of any child in Ghana and that the challenges would be addressed.
The DCE admonished beneficiaries to take advantage of the Policy and study hard to justify the resources being used for their education.
Mr Arthur said the Government initiated the Double Track System to cater for the increasing number of students in the country adding that the System was acknowledged internationally as a means of ensuring equitable access to high schools and tertiary institutions.
Ms Winful, on her part, said the Free SHS programme was the boldest policy initiatives the nation had ever seen.
She said the Policy had the potential of providing a strong cornerstone for development and urged all to lend their unflinching support and commitment to ensure its success.
