Accra, Sept. 23, GNA – Mr Landry Nintereste, the Coordinator of 350 Africa, has commended members of the Ghana Reducing Our Carbon (350 G-ROC) for their efforts in campaigning for the use of renewable energy systems in the country.
The 350 G-ROC members are into sensitizing institutions and communities on the need for the establishment of renewable energy to reduce the effect of climate change.
The 350 G-ROC and 350 Africa are affiliates of 350.org, an international environmental organization with the objective of empowering young people at the grassroots, to collaborate with key stakeholders to actively champion the reduction of carbon emissions and promote renewable energy.
Mr Nintereste said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency when he met with members of 350 G-ROC at a four-day meeting in Accra, to plan for the next phase of G-ROC’s Renewable Energy Campaign from 2019-2020.
The meeting dwelt on achievement, challenges, and the way forward for renewable energy agenda.
Mr Nintereste recommended that the next phase of the campaign should focus on specific geographical locations to efficiently track progress.
Mr Ezekiel Chibeze, the Coordinator of 350 G-ROC, said considering the challenges more volunteers would be need to intensify the advocacy campaign to achieve the intended 10 per cent renewable energy target in the country by 2030.
He said the G-ROC volunteers would organize a meeting to discuss among other things, the way to achieve the collective agenda of reducing carbon emissions and climate change.
The 350 Africa and G-ROC members later had a learning and idea sharing session with key partners including: the Institute of Sustainable Energy and Environment Solutions (ISEES), Kasa Initiative – Ghana, Abibimman Foundation, Community and Family Aid Foundation, Ghana Youth Environmental Movement, Foundation for Security and Development in Africa.
