Accra, Aug. 28, GNA - The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) has received a proposal from StarTimes Ghana, for the creation of an invitational tournament dubbed ''The StarTimes Cup'' that could commence on September 16.
The invitational tournament, which would feature Premier League and Division One League clubs, meant to keep clubs active as well as keeping alive the spirit of local football, which has been on downward surge after the expose' by Anas Amereyaw Anas which revealed widespread corrupt and bribery pratices.
A statement signed by the Chairman of GHALCA, Mr Kudjoe Fianoo reads; “this is to inform you that the Ghana League Clubs Association has received a proposal from StarTimes, our official broadcast partner, for a collaboration to organise a tournament, to fill gap resulting from the truncation of the formal football in Ghana.
“The objectives of the proposed tournament are as follows; fill the void created by the truncation of the Premier League to keep clubs active, sustain spectator and viewer interest in association football till formal resumption of the respective league, reignite media interest in proactive football agenda to redirect active football conversation to the sustenance of the local game,'' the statement stated.
The statement entreated clubs to accept the proposal, since it would be benefecial to all participating clubs.
According to the statement, interested clubs are expected to respond by, Tuesday, August 28, 2018.
It added that upon suave successful negotiations, the competition would be launched on Wednesday, September 5, 2018.
