Accra, Aug. 27, GNA - Mr. Arkady Dvorkovich, presidential candidate of World Chess Federation (FIDE), has paid a working visit to the Emirate of Sharjah, where he held discussions with the management of the Arab Chess Federation.
Mr Dvorkovich, met Shekih Saud Al-Mualla-President of the Arab Chess Federation, International Master Sami Khader (Jordan)-Vice President of the Arab Chess Federation and Rajai Al-Susi (Palestine) - Deputy General-Secretary as part of his election campaign.
The former Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the LOC 2018 FIFA World Cup and now FIDE presidential candidate shared his campaign program and also discussed areas of potential bilateral cooperation.
The meeting took place at the Sharjah Cultural and Chess Club.
The Sharjah Cultural and Chess Club is one of the beautiful chess edifices across the globe to have hosted many chess competitions, such as the FIDE Grand Prix Events and Asian Continental Chess tournaments.
The FIDE Presidential Candidate was given a tour of the facility after the meeting.
Mr. Arkady, emphasized on accountability, right partnerships and marketing with local companies that have footprints globally.
He added that, there would be allocation of tournaments on a fair basis and improving the quality of existing tournaments, as well as, a four year budget for each federation with FIDE to support the development of chess globally, not just in an election year which is the current norm of the present FIDE administration.
The 2018 FIDE Presidential elections would take place during the World Chess Olympiad in Batumi, Georgia, on October 3, 2018.
The former Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the LOC 2018 FIFA World Cup Arkady Dvorkovich stands favorite to take over from his compatriot Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.
