Kumasi, Aug. 20, GNA – Nana Abenaa Akuamoa Boateng, Executive Director of Women’s Health Wealth (WHW), a Ghanaian based NGO, has stressed the need to empower women to develop their potentials.
She said educating women, promoting their health and empowering them economically was essential to the development of every country.
“A country cannot be developed if women are not healthy, educated, and economically empowered”, she told the Ghana News Agency, at a closing of week-long girls’ leadership camp in Kumasi.
The camp was organised by WHW on the theme “sexuality and life skills, a must for strong girls”,
It aimed at building the emotional intelligence of young girls through class activities on how to withstand stress, build healthy relationship among their parents and peers, say no to sex and other sexual abuses as well as being assertive.
Nana Akuamoa Boateng explained that, the way to progress of a country was also hinged on women taking their rightful place in the developmental processes.
She said about 3,000 young girls had in the last three years benefited from the camp sessions, while several of them had also received educational support to continue their education.
The organisation had also visited more than 70 communities on regular basis to provide free health screening on diabetes, hypertension, cervical and breast cancer, among others, to the people.
Nana Akuamoa Boateng said WHW was committed to continuous support of young girls to lift them out of ignorance and poverty.
Miss Elizabeth Kpovi, a participant thanked the organisers and assured to share her experiences with her peers to enable them benefit.
She said the exposure had helped her to uncover certain facts in life as an adolescent.
