Winneba (C/R) Aug. 19, GNA - Reverend Father Professor Anthony Afful-Broni, Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has pledged the commitment of the university to collaborate with Effutuman to help ensure the development of the area.
He said if people want to count the cost of education and set aside needed and useful policies which are being rolled out by the government, the society will end up cultivating and harvesting ignorant citizens.
Prof Afful-Broni said during a meeting between the university and stakeholders of Effutuman led by Neenyi Ghartey VII, Paramount Chief of the area.
Other stakeholders at the meeting was Mr Alexzander Ato Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, MP for the area; Mr John B. Ninson, the Effutu Municipal Chief Executive; Mr Ayerebi Acquah former District Chief Executive; Sarechi Sulemanah Sarargah, chief of Zongo community in Effutu; Front line leaders of the Asafo Number one and two Companies, Assembly Members and some opinion leaders in the area.
The meeting was held to remind the authorities of the University of their Corporate Social Responsibilities to Effutuman.
Prof Afful-Broni said the visit by the stakeholder was exceptionally refreshing because it signifies the emergence of a new university-community relationship in which they would progressively forge ahead as equal partners in development.
“We are stepping up our Corporate Social Responsibility on a new high footing and Effutuman will be harvesting the fruit pretty soon” adding that their newly branded corporate social responsibilities intervention and cooperation is covering several areas including primary and secondary education, entrepreneurship training amongst others”, he said.
Neenyi Ghartey VII expressed concern that over the years, the relationship between the community and the university has not grown as expected.
He expressed the hope that the university will this time round sit-up for the entire people living in Effutu.
Mr Alex Afenyo-Markin thanked the university for creating the platform for the discussion.
He took opportunity to call his people irrespective of their culture and political affiliations to bury their difference and to see themselves as one people.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the university and the community in this regard.
