Accra, Aug. 13, GNA – The death of Naa Alhaji Salifu Wumbei, Wulensi Naa of the Nanumba Traditional Council, occurred over the weekend.
Reports say he died of natural causes.
Naa Wumbei was born on September 15, 1939, attended Bimbila, Dagomba District Council Middle Primary School, Yendi and Kwame Nkrumah Ideological Institute, Winneba 1947 to 1965.
In 1969, he contested for the parliamentary elections in Wulensi on the ticket of the then People’s Action Party.
Naa Wumbei was first enskinned as Gbantuagu in 1990, and chief of Wulensi in the year 2000 where he used his office to promote peace, empowered youth to go into agriculture and also fight various social vices.
Nyelimbolgu Naa Yakubu Andani Dasana, Regent of Bimbila, speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on the demise of the Naa Wumbei, said the late chief had contributed tremendously to the development of all Nanung.
He described the late chief as a visionary leader who stood for the truth no matter the circumstance adding that he was very instrumental and an action man who energized the efforts of Nanumba Traditional Council meetings.
Naa Dasana said the late chief represented the Nanung Kingdom at the National House of Chiefs, and served on various committees.
