Kintampo (B/A), Aug. 10, GNA – Mr Isaac Kwabena Sarkodie Boahen, a retired Educationist, has lauded the double track education system to be implemented in Senior High Schools in the next academic year.
He appealed to the public to support and embrace the effort for more students to benefit from the government’s free Senior High School programme.
Mr Boahen lauded the implementation of the free SHS, saying considering the sharp increase in enrolment, it is imperative for government to introduce the double track system in the 400 Senior High Schools.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kintampo in the Brong-Ahafo Region, Mr Boahen who is a founding member of the New Patriotic Party in the region, said with the system in place, the huge infrastructural deficit in the SHS sector would be addressed.
The Educationist said though it is necessary for government to enhance physical infrastructure in the existing schools, there is also the need to find alternative ways to ensure that all qualified students benefit from the free SHS programme.
“It would take time for the government to be able to address the physical infrastructure deficit in the SHSs so we don’t have any other option than to embrace and support the double track system which is another effective tool to enhance teaching and learning”, Mr Boahen said.
In fact government must be applauded for such an initiative which would empower the schools to admit more students in September.
