Winneba (C/R) Aug. 7, GNA - The Graduate Students Association-Ghana (GRASAG) has commended government for its desire to industrialize the country through the One District, One Factory Policy.
The Association said the policy should be sustained, and that, government must invest more into research to identify more sustainable and demand driven factories that will serve their purpose and the interest of citizens.
The association made the commendation in an address delivered by Mr. Emmanuel Owusu, President of GRASAG-University of Education Winneba (UEW) chapter at the 3rd International Multi-Disciplinary Postgraduates Students Conference, hosted by the University at Winneba.
It was on the theme “Attaining the Sustainable Development Goals through Research”, and was attended by graduate students across the country and foreign students.
Mr Owusu said Ghana and for that matter Africa “is blessed with human and other natural resources needed for its emancipation from this cup-in-hand economy to a more robust, resilient economy capable of feeding itself and exporting the surplus to other parts of the world”, he stated.
He said, with the changing demand of the world’s economy; it has become necessary for a paradigm shift in the thinking pattern and efforts of various stakeholders.
He said achieving the SDGs requires commitment and collaborative efforts among member states, and academia to offer direction towards achieving prosperity for the people of Africa and the world as a whole.
Rev. Father Professor Anthony Afful-Broni, Acting Vice Chancellor of UEW, who chaired the event, commended the tireless efforts of the organizing committee (GRASAG-UEW) and especially Prof. Kolawole Raheem of SACOST-IERIS, and the Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Samuel Manasseh Yirenyi of UEW.
He said the UEW is mandated to play a crucial and leading role in Ghana’s drive to producing scholars whose knowledge would be fully responsive to the realities of Ghana and the West Africa Sub Region.
The Acting Vice Chancellor urged them to fully participate in the deliberations to make the right decisions and come out with a paper that will gain government or other institutional support as well as international recognition.
