Pediatorkope (Ada), Aug. 03, GNA – Mr Agyemang Asubonteng, the In-charge of the Pediatorkope Health Centre has appealed for the provision of canoes and boats to facilitate the transportation of patients to the facility for medical attention.
He said the health centre, which is located on an island in the Ada East District could only boast of one canoe which served a total of 8,422 population in the 22 communities of the island and added that it was a worrying situation.
The only means of transportation of the people of Pediatorkope and its surrounding communities is by using canoes to attend to the health centre and to reach other communities for their daily activities.
Mr Asubonteng made the appeal when some members of the Ghana Health Service Council paid a working visit to the facility to familiarise themselves with the challenges confronting the health centre and to help address them.
He said the facility had a boat that could transport more than 10 people to and from the centre but could not use it due to its deplorable nature, and they had to resort to the use of only one canoe which was also leaking.
Mr Asubonteng said the health centre was really in need of canoes and speed boats to enhance their services as it was limiting the number of outreach initiatives they undertook and adversely affected the number of people who patronised the only facility serving the 22 communities.
The In-charge also called for support in renovating the facility as some parts of the building and equipment was in deplorable condition.
Dr Yao Yeboah, the Chairman of the Council, however, promised they would repair the leaking canoe while they prepared to acquire a new one for the centre.
The Council also awarded a scholarship package to Mr Asubonteng, to further his studies for being diligent in providing selfless healthcare for the community.
The award was for having served for five years on the island communities and to motivate him to do more to enhance healthcare of the people.
Dr Yeboah said the award was an initiative of the Council to motivate managers of all health facilities to give off their best in health delivery.
