Accra, Aug. 1, GNA - The national athletics team, has arrived in Asaba, Nigeria for the 2018 African Senior Athletics Championships.
The five-day championship, which commenced on Wednesday, would end on Sunday, August 5.
Mr. Bawa Fuseini, General Secretary of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA), led the delegation, made up of four athletes, Janet Amponsah (100m,200m), Hor Halutie (100m, 200m), Emmanuel Yeboah (100m,200m) and Abigail Kwarteng (high jump).
The athletes, on arrival engaged in a light shake up with Amponsah and Halutie, scheduled to commence competition on Thursday.
Some of the biggest names in African athletics have shown up in Asaba for the five-day event.
Marie Josee Ta Lou, the fastest woman in the world this year is the favourite for both the 100m and 200m events, though Blessing Okagbare would give her a stiff competition.
The men's 100m and 200m line up is more competitive and difficult to predict, with South African pair of Akani Simbine and Henricho Bruintjies won gold and silver in the event at the Commonwealth Games and are favourites to excel.
