Ho, May 28, GNA - Mr Agbeko Lotsu, President, E.P. College of Education (AMECO) Old Students Association has called on the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE) to reintroduce the study of French in the College.
He said the College was the only institution training French teachers in the Volta Region and feared its cancellation could lead to shortage of French teachers in the Region.
Mr Lotsu who made the call at the first “homecoming” event of the Old Students Association at Amedzofe, said the Association noted that French was taken out of the courses being offered at the College in its 2018/2019 admissions and called for its reintroduction.
He said French was gradually becoming a second official Language in the country and that its withdrawal as a course of study in the College could undermine government’s efforts at making the subject compulsory in basic schools.
Mr Lotsu said the College has a well-furnished laboratory for the study of French, courtesy the French Government and other stakeholders and appealed for a reconsideration of the decision.
He also appealed for the road leading to the College to be fixed and water challenges facing students addressed and stated the resolve of the Association to use its new “Alumni Lecture Series” to help address challenges of the College and prepare students for the “world of work”.
