Tarkwa (W/R), May 28, GNA - The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tarkwa Nsueam, Mr Glibert Kennedy Asmah, has called on farmers to embrace the Planting for Food and Job's (PFJ's) programme.
According to the MCE, the programme contains attractive incentives such as supply of seeds, fertilizer to farmers at subsidize prices, free agricultural extension services and marketing opportunities for farmers after harvesting.
He said the PFJ's programme initiated by the government in 2017 was to improve agricultural production in the country.
Addressing traditional rulers, farmers, assembly members, zonal council representatives,unit committee members and agricultural officers on the PFJ's programme, Mr Asmah entreated farmers to show interest in the programme as government has invested heavily in it.
He explained that this year, the Tarkwa Nsueam assembly has projected to distribute more than 60,000 free high yielding and improved seedlings to farmers in the municipality as part of the PFJ's programme.
The Municipal Agric Director, Mr Joseph Nii Tetey Otu, advised farmers to register for the programme to make optimum benefit.
Mr. Benjamin Kesse, Presiding Member for Tarkwa Nsueam Assembly appealed to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to involve local stakeholders in the monitoring of the programme.
He said this anyone who attempts to take advantage of the programme to cheat interested farmers would be dealt with.
